As we all gear up to answer the question of what we are thankful for I took a moment to sit down with my boys and read them a book by Lisa Rey Marks titled “Appreciation Party”. It’s the story of Appreciakate, Joyann, Happylee, Merrylou and the gang. They are Focus Friends who come together to jump, shimmy-shimmy and celebrate all of the things that they appreciate.
It’s a great story where the kids are given three clues to help them in finding the Gift of Appreciation. After reading the book it really opened up dialog with my children to discuss the things that we are thankful for and appreciate about each other and our family. The highlights of that conversation… my 7 year old appreciates watching NASCAR with his Dad and my 5 year old appreciates ice cream and my kisses. I feel that we made progress.

shapes our life experiences. “Appreciation Party” is the second
book in the series, the first is “Joy is the Greatest Gift”. I
think every family could use a little joy and appreciation at this time
of the year. These books are also perfect for teachers and caregivers.
